John W. Work III and the Word of the Day

The academic trajectory of John Wesley Work III is inspiring, to say the least.
The breakdown:

1923, receives Bachelor of Arts from Fisk University

1923 attends Institute of Musical Art in New York (now known as Julliard)

1927 begins teaching at Fisk

1930 receives a Master’s of Arts degree with his thesis, American Negro Songs and Spirituals

1930 awarded two Julius Rosenwald Foundation Fellowships for 1931-1933

1933 receives a Bachelor of Music degree from Yale University

1933 - 1966 served at Fisk University as a teacher, chairman of the Department of Music

1941 - 1942 collaborated with colleagues, Sociology department head Charles S. Johnson and professor of Sociology, Lewis Jones, to collaborate with the Archive of American Folk Song for a 2 year field study in the Mississippi Delta region along with Alan Lomax

1947 - 1956 served as director of the Fisk Jubilee Singers

And that isn't the half.
So, there are a few links to the right that tell more of the story....

Oh and the word of the day is....

'vituperative' meaning containing or characterized by verbal abuse.
